|
To defend the freedom of religion and conscience against policies and legislation which, either intentionally or unitentionally, would seek to curtail or limit legitimate forms of religious speech and expression.
Presently, this includes the CCCB's opposition to a proposed amendment to Bill C-9, titled ‘An Act to amend the Criminal Code (hate propaganda, hate crime, and access to religious or cultural places).’ As per the proposed amendment, the current provision in the Criminal Code slated for removal states: “(3) No person shall be convicted of an offence under subsection (2) [...] (b) if, in good faith, the person expressed or attempted to establish by an argument an opinion on a religious subject or an opinion based on a belief in a religious text.”

With respect to "Medical Assistance in Dying" or ("MAiD"), the CCCB objects unequivocally to euthanasia/assisted suicide and to all legislation that permits euthanasia/assisted suicide, and, therefore, disagrees with any expansion of the criteria of admissibility to "MAiD" to vulnerable populations, including persons with mental illness and "mature minors."
