Policies and programs resulting from the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change including the Low Carbon Economy Leadership and Challenge Funds, the Centre for Greening Government Strategy and commitment to 100% renewable electricity for government operations by 2025. The lobbying objective was to ensure that the benefit of policies and programs that accelerate the deployment of solar energy technologies was understood by policy makers during policy and program design and implementation.

Regulation

Regulations related to greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity sector including the Output Based Pricing System (OBPS), the Performance Standards for Natural Gas and Coal-fired electricity and the Clean Fuels Standard. The lobbying objective was to ensure that the stringency of the regulations are consistent with Canada's 90% non-emitting electricity by 2030 and 30% emissions reductions by 2030 commitment.

CanSIA is a national trade association that represents the solar energy industry throughout Canada. CanSIA’s vision for Canada’s solar energy industry in 2020 is for solar electricity to be a mainstream energy source and an integral part of Canada’s diversified electricity mix. CanSIA is also targeting the solar electricity industry to be sustainable, with no direct subsidies, and operating in a supportive and stable policy and regulatory environment that recognizes the true value of solar.
