- Greater investments made by the federal government in research funding for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution
- Canadians With Disabilities Act. In this anticipated upcoming legislation from the Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Carla Qualtrough, Crohn's and Colitis Canada is seeking for the Minister to include within the legislation the accessibility of federal government buildings' washrooms, when reasonable.
Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution, Policies or Program, Regulation
- Increase access to public and private washroom facilities. We would like to support the development of a washroom access legislation that would require retail establishments that have public toilet facilitates for their employees only to allow customers to use the facilities if the customer suffers from Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis or other medical conditions requiring immediate access to a washroom.
Policies or Program
- Add Crohn's disease and ulcerative Colitis onto the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (PHAC) list of identified chronic conditions.
PHAC has developed a 3-year Preventing Chronic Disease Strategic Plan 2013-2016. The strategy identifies numerous major chronic conditions; however Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are not included and have been overlooked as a major chronic disease. Crohn's and Colitis Canada would like to have both chronic conditions recognized on the PHAC website.
- Improve access to exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) and supplies for children and adults living with Crohn’s disease. The use of enteral nutrition as a treatment for Crohn’s disease for children dates back to more than 40 years. This treatment option has been popular in Europe and has been proven successful in numerous studies of children and adults living with Crohn’s Disease. Crohn's and Colitis Canada requests the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) to include EEN formula and equipment as eligible medicaments or other preparations or substances under the Medical Expense Tax Credit.
- Increase access to proven treatments to ensure that every Canadian no matter where they live has equal access and adequate coverage for treatments as prescribed by their doctor.

Description of the organization's activities
Crohn`s and Colitis Canada is a volunteer-based national charity dedicated to finding cures for Crohn`s disease and ulcerative colitis, the major conditions that constitute inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and to improving the lives of children and adults affected by these chronic conditions. Crohn's and Colitis Canada delivers on its promise by investing in research, education and awareness. The organization is Canada`s top funder of cure-directed research and is a world leader in non-governmental funding per capita of such research.

Crohn’s and Colitis Canada is comprised of approximately 65,000 volunteers, donors or any individual who expresses interest in engaging with the organization. There is no paid membership. There are 45 chapters and 24 affiliates (which are chapters in the making) across Canada. Crohn's and Colitis Canada is governed by the Board of Directors. It is further supported by numerous committees, groups and advisory councils.
