Description of the organization's activities: Property & Casualty Insurance Compensation Corporation (PACICC) is a non-profit corporation funded by private property and casualty (P&C) insurance companies licensed to operate in a province or territory of Canada. PACICC's mandate is to respond to and pay claims of policyholders and claimants under most polices issued by P&C insurance companies in the event of an insolvency of the issuing P&C insurance company, to a limit of $250,000 for losses arising from a single occurrence, and to refund up to the lesser of 70% and $700 of unearned (unexpired) insurance premiums to policyholders of the insolvent insurer. PACICC does not respond to claims under auto insurance policies issued in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and certain auto insurance policies (extension coverage) in British Columbia and affords limited payment in respect of auto insurance policies issued in Quebec.
Organization's membership or classes of membership: Membership in PACICC is mandatory for all P&C insurers licensed in a province or terrirtory of Canada, unless they are members of another authorized plan. Exceptions include insurers licensed to sell only speciality lines of insurance such as surety, fidelity, marine and aviation.
