| Description of the organization's activities: | The Council of Marine Carriers (CMC) represents 40 companies engaged in the operation of about 280 towboats and coastal vessels and about 800 barges of various types and sizes, on the British Columbia coast, Mackenzie River waterways, Arctic waters and various other international voyages. These companies employ about 2,400 sea-going personnel. The Council carries out technical research and seeks appropriate legislative and regulatory initiatives respecting the marine industry in general and CMC members in particular. Members may elect to be represented by CMC in labour issues and collective bargaining. |
