- Representations seeking modification to Schedule IV of the Safe and Accountable Rail Act, to better ensure prescribed amount of minimum liability insurance coverage is commensurate to risks presented by small operators.
Policies or Program
- Development of program for infrastructure support of shortline railways through public-private partnerships, and strengthen and accelerate funding for the development of rail and infrastructure within all identified trade gateways and corridors.
- Discussion with Transport Canada on the possible one year extension concerning Locomotive Emission of the Memorandum of Understanding.
- Encourage government research investment in transportation field, by developing programs that encourage technology development and implementation for security technology, emissions reductions, and other rail safety technology.
- We will advocate for the installation of both voice and video recorders on board locomotive cabs that can be used by the rail industry for safety purposes.
Regulation
- Proximity - Modifications to the proposed Access Control regulations to cause municipalities to consult railways on land development or zoning issues adjacent to rail property.
