- Bill formerly known as Bill C-28, "An Act to promote the efficiency and adaptability of the Canadian economy by regulating certain activities that discourage reliance on electronic means of carrying out commercial activities, and to amend the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Act, the Competition Act, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and the Telecommunications Act", with respect to the potential negative impacts of anti-spam and anti-malware provisions on Canadian business online, the entertainment software industry, and development, sale and distribution of entertainment software in Canada, and the proposal of amendments to these sections and accompanying regulations.
- Formerly known as Bill C-12, "An Act to amend the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act", with respect to the potential impacts of new data breach and valid consent provisions on Canadian business online, the entertainment software industry, and development, sale and distribution of entertainment software in Canada, and the proposal of amendments to these sections and accompanying regulations.
- Formerly known as Bill C-30, "An Act to enact the Investigating and Preventing Criminal Electronic Communications Act and to amend the Criminal Code and other Acts", with respect to the potential impacts of new obligations on telecommunication service providers on Canadian business online, the entertainment software industry, and development, sale and distribution of entertainment software in Canada, and the proposal of amendments to these sections and accompanying regulations.
- Introduction of copyright reform legislation to bring Copyright Act into compliance with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Internet treaties and a) contains more specific language and stringent penalties for the manufacture and use of circumvention devices used to bypass embedded technical protection measures (TPMs) and b) requires Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to take down websites offering pirated products once the ISP has been notified and provided evidence by the rights holder.
- Propose legislation to amend the Copyright Act, the Trade-marks Act, the Customs Act, the Criminal Code, and the Proceeds of Crime Act, for the purpose of increasing enforcement and penalties for intellectual property offences and piracy.
