McMaster University's purpose is the discovery, communication and preservation of knowledge. In our teaching, research and scholarship, we are committed to creativity, innovation and excellence. McMaster's main campus in Hamilton, Ontario, supports more than 6,500 faculty and staff who serve 18,500 full-time undergraduate students, 3,000 graduate students. More than 120,000 alumni located around the world have earned their degrees from McMaster.

The McMaster University Act 1976 by the Ontario Legislature incorporates McMaster and established a bicameral system of university government - a Board of Governors and a Senate, each with its own jurisdiction and powers. The 38-member Board of Governors is responsible for the government, conduct,management and control of the University, its property revenues, business and affairs. The Senate has ultimate responsibility for academic policy and regulating the system of education.McMaster has three goals: To provide an innovative and stimulating learning environment where students can prepare themselves to excel in life, to achieve the next level in research results and reputation by building on existing and emerging areas of excellence and to build an inclusivecommunity with a shared purpose.
