The Corporation offers metallurgical processes for the treatment of complex and refractory material from mining operations. DST’s processes are applied for the extraction of precious metals and for the removal and stabilization of contaminants, such as arsenic, from ores and concentrates. The Corporation provides environmentally-friendly, viable and efficient processes, capable of handling ores which may not be processed with conventional approaches due to metallurgical issues or environmental considerations. The precious metal recovery process uses sodium hypochlorite with a catalytic amount of sodium hypobromite in acidic conditions to put the gold into solution. The efficiency of the process, coupled with its closed-loop operating conditions, plant size and construction material allow for competitive operating and capital costs. When dealing with arsenic beating ores often associated with copper, gold, silver or polymetallic deposits, the Corporation has developed new processes to remove and incorporate arsenic into a highly stable glass matrix. The costs of sequestrating the arsenic using the DST vitrification technology are lower than conventional approaches, such as the formation of scorodite, and produce a stable, insoluble glass residue meeting environmental requirements.
