Ocean Protection Plan: To ensure that programs set up with the original OPP are continued to be funded on the west coast including such areas as Emergency Response and the Emergency Towing Vessels, Protection of the Southern Resident Killer whales, and improvements to the Navigation and communications systems.
Pilotage Act; To ensure the nationalization of the Pilotage in Canada recognizes the distinct differences between regions and we do not lose local representation of Pilotage in BC. Lobby TC regarding regulations pertaining to the PPA Pilotage Waiver Program.
Transport Canada Policy document respecting definition of Sheltered Waters and Voyages. A number of proposed changes in the Marine Personnel regulations will greatly affect out industry in BC.

Description of the organization's activities

The Council of Marine Carriers (CMC) represents 40 companies engaged in the operation of about 280 towboats and coastal vessels and about 800 barges of various types and sizes, on the British Columbia coast, Mackenzie River waterways, Arctic waters and various other international voyages. These companies employ about 2,400 sea-going personnel. The Council carries out technical research and seeks appropriate legislative and regulatory initiatives respecting the marine industry in general and CMC members in particular.
