| Description of the organization's activities: | THE CANADIAN COUNCIL OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS (CCPE) IS THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF THE PROVINCIAL AND TERRITORIAL ASSOCIATIONS/ORDRE THAT GOVERN THE PROFESSION OF ENGINEERING IN CANADA AND LICENSE THE COUNTRY'S 160,000 ENGINEERS. ESTABLISHED IN 1936, CCPE SERVES THE ASSOCIATIONS/ORDRE, WHICH ARE ITS CONSTITUENT AND SOLE MEMBERS, THROUGH THE DELIVERY OF NATIONAL PROGRAMS WHICH ENSURE THE HIGHEST STANDARD OF ENGINEERING EDUCATION, PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND ETHICAL CONDUCT. CCPE IS THE VOICE OF ITS CONSTITUENT MEMBERS IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS, AND PROMOTES GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF THE NATURE, ROLE AND CONTRIBUTION OF ENGINEERING TO SOCIETY. THROUGH THE CANADIAN ENGINEERING ACCREDITATION BOARD (CEAB), CCPE ACCREDITS UNDERGRADUATE ENGINEERING PROGRAMS THAT MEET OR EXCEED THE EDUCATIONAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO BE GRANTED REGISTRATION AS A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER IN CANADA. SIMILARLY, THROUGH THE CANADIAN ENGINEERING QUALIFICATIONS BOARD (CEQB), CCPE FORMULATES NATIONAL GUIDELINES ON THE QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS OF PRACTICE REQUIRED OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS. | ||||

AT THIS MEETING, CCPE ALSO DISCUSSED THE INTERNATIONAL MUTUAL RECOGNITION AGREEMENTS ON ACCREDITATION AND COMPETENCE THAT WE HAVE REACHED WITH ENGINEERING ASSOCIATIONS IN OTHER NATIONS. IN ADDITION, CCPE SUBMITTED A BRIEF TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS STANDING COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORT OUTLINING OUR SUPPORT FOR BILL C-58, AN ACT TO AMEND THE RAILWAY SAFETY ACT. |
