Grant, Contribution or Other Financial Benefit

• Canada Council: Request funding from the Canada Council for the Arts from their "Arts Service Organization" program to assist us in supporting a national distribution of art and literary magazines to newsstand, libraries and bookstores. .
• Canada Council: Request funding from the Canada Council for the Arts from their "Flying Squad" program to allow us to provide skills training to art and literary magazine publishers and employees.
• Canada Magazine Fund: Request funding from the Canada Magazine Fund to support three projects as follows: 1) National Promotions Program. It is in both official languages and promotes magazine sales on the newsstand, by direct mail to Canadian homes and sales via the internet; 2) The Professional Development Program: This program helps us with in career skills training sessions and events presented across Canada in both official languages 3) Best On Page: This is an event that features the best creative ad design work from around the world and is meant to promote the creative value of magazines to ad agencies and advertisers as advertising is the major income for the magazine industry and is the source of funds to pay for Canadian content.

• Copyright Act. With respect to anticipated amendments to section 24 that deals with copyright owners' rights.

Policies or Program

• Canada Post Review Panel. This panel was appointed by the Prime Minister to consider a broad range of matters to do with Canada Post current and long term responsibilities. We met with and provided ideas for the panel's consideration with respect to the delivery of Canadian content magazines to Canadian households.
• Foreign Investment review panel: This panel was appointed by the Prime Minister to address Canadian competitiveness. We submitted some ideas respecting how magazines can help make Cnada more competitive at home and abroad.
• PCH Review of Canada Magazine Fund and Publications Assistance Program. Heritage Canada is reviewing both of these programs at the same time and is considering a merger of he two. These programs are both magazine focused programs. At Heritage's invitation, we submitted our ideas about this potential merger.
