| Description of the organization's activities: | The Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation provides students with opportunities to pursue the post-secondary education they need to prepare themselves for the future. The objects and purposes of the Foundation are to grant scholarships to students who are in financial need and who demonstrate merit, in order to improve access to postsecondary education so that Canadians can acquire skills needed to participate in a changing economy and society. Granted a lump sum payment of $2.5 billion in funding by the Government of Canada in 1998, the Foundation began awarding its bursaries and scholarships in 2000. It is currently distributing $325 million a year in the form of bursaries and scholarships throughout Canada. It will continue to do so throughout its 10-year mandate and currently does not receive any government funding on an annual basis. |
