In partnership with Dr. Tarah Hodgkinson at Wilfred Laurier University who received $100,000 in funding to consult with varying police service boards/commissions in Canada, design a national police board governance strategy and preliminary training program is currently underway. The objective of this project is create a long-term police service/commission board governance training module that complements provincial training programs and/or fills a gap in training in those provinces that currently do not have training. The goal is to increase knowledge and consistency of police board knowledge as directors/commissioners cycle through municipal, provincial and national boards.

National Training for Police Governance Bodies- CAPG will be asking Public Safety Canada's advice on ensuring common standards across the country. Police Act legislation is either unclear, inconsistent, or non-existent regarding the training of police board/commission members. Where such training exists, it has been identified as insufficient, out-of-date, or
inaccessible. Police boards/commissions across Canada are often under-resourced, with accessible, cohesive, evidence based
training consistently being identified as a gap in addressing effective governance and oversight of municipal police services.
CAPG is reviewing proposals around Bail Reform.
