Description of the organization's activities:
Trade Association for Canadian Travel Agencies: ACTA encourages travel agencies and agents to act at all times in a professional manner and to protect the interests of consumers. ACTA members agree to abide by our Code of Ethics and our Standards. ACTA promotes travel agents as experts in arranging leisure travel and business travel. ACTA speaks out for members against actions and decisions that can harm Canadians’ freedom to travel in comfort and safety and in favour of actions and decisions that help our industry to grow and our consumers to get the optimum of enjoyment and efficiency from their travels. ACTA is willing and able to work closely with government bodies, sister associations and other organizations who recognize the benefits and the contributions to travel and tourism and to society at large of travel agencies and the agents who work in them for their clients in Canada’s consumer and corporate marketplaces.

- ACTA's mandate is to ensure consumers have professional and meaningful travel counselling by providing effective leadership in a number of key strategic areas on behalf of the retail travel industry members. ● Advocacy and Lobbying federal and provincial governments and national and multi-national corporations to ensure a positive environment exists for travel retailers to provide service to travel consumers.● Communications & Public relations to government and travel industry partners to insure they are aware of the importance of the retail travel sector; to the general public to ensure they are aware of the benefits of using ACTA member retailers for their travel needs; and to members and non members to better equip them to manage their businesses.● Perform and communicate Research which is relevant and meaningful to members and partners to enable them to better manage their businesses and work more effectively together.● Facilitate or deliver Education and Training to further professionalize the retail travel sector and add greater value to travel consumers.● Membership Development to ensure the greatest participation rate of the retail travel community in ACTA and maximum impact for businesses and consumers in Canada.

Travel Agencies and Travel Industry Suppliers: The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA) is a large organization in Canada’s travel industry, speaking on behalf of more than 1,200 travel agencies and about 14,000 travel agents who are members of the association. In addition, hundreds of industry members such as hotels, rent-a-car companies and other providers join ACTA as Allied Members. We also partner with corporate leaders such as which supply travellers with vital products. ACTA also represents over 1,200 certified travel professionals holding the Certified Travel Counsellor (CTC) and Certified Travel Manager (CTM) designations. About 55 percent of all travel agents hold ACTA membership. About 80 percent of our members are in the provinces of British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec but we have members in all provinces and territories including full time employees and the approximately 30 percent of travel agents who work part time.
