ESDC's Apprenticeship Service Program, receiving funding to act as an Apprenticeship Intermediary and work with employers in manufacturing to place recent grads and apprentices in skilled occupations and produce high quality Labour Market. Furthermore, we work with employers and participants to ensure that they “stay on track” towards the goal of completing their apprenticeship levels. More specifically we are using registration bonuses to reduce the cost for hiring an industrial apprentice in one of 26 Red Seal Trades.
ESDC's Program, receiving funding for the Future of Canadian Automotive Labourfource (FOCAL): Solutions to Workforce Challenges and Industry Transitions (SWCIT) project to provide wage incentives for manufacturers in the broader automotive sector, additional supports to prospective manufacturing workers who come from equity deserving groups, covering the cost of training and wages for employers and incumbent workers. The project will also conduct additional research and labour market forecasts for the broader automotive sector. - still in process
ESDC’s Youth Employment Skills Strategy, receiving funding for an innovative project to support disadvantaged and vulnerable youth to develop skills and find employment in manufacturing.

ESDC's Program, receiving funding for an Automotive Industry Labour Market Analysis program to create industry-validated, regional, occupational supply and demand analysis and forecasts and skills profiles for skilled trades and other key skilled occupations in the broader automotive sector including vehicle assemblers, parts manufacturers and technology companies that supply the industry. Project ended Oct 7, 2021
ESDC’s Youth Employment Skills Strategy, negotiating funding for an innovative project to support disadvantaged and vulnerable youth to develop skills and find employment in manufacturing.
From time to time applies for funding for other projects related to training, labour markets, and other human resource issues in the manufacturing sector.
Ontario MLTSD (Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development) program, funded by Ontario Human Capital Research and Innovation Fund - CSTEC receiving funding for a Mobility Matters project to shed light on motivations and barriers to worker mobility/relocation, to provide practical advice to manufacturers located in smaller communities and provide policy guidance to government with respect to the issue of worker mobility and relocation to smaller communities in the Province. Project ended April 30, 2021
Ontario MLTSD Career Ready Auto Stream program - CSTEC receiving funding from Ontario MLTSD to develop, improve, and expand partnerships with employers in both automotive and advanced manufacturing enterprises with a significant footprint in the automotive sector (at least 30% of a company’s total sales revenue must come from the automotive sector) to increase the number of experiential learning (EL) opportunities being offered to post-secondary students in industrial programs. Project ended Sep 30, 2021

The Canadian Skills Training and Employment Coalition (CSTEC), formerly known as Canadian Steel Trade and Employment Congress (CSTEC), the oldest of the existing sector councils, was formed in 1986 as a joint venture between the United Steelworkers (USW) and Canada’s steel producing companies. Its initial mandate was to promote joint research, lobbying and education efforts on steel trade issues. With 25 years of experience in facilitating dialogue between industry, union, educational institutions and governments, CSTEC’s mandate has continuously evolved and adapted to focus on a broad range of training issues related to workplace and essential skills training, apprenticeship and technical training, needs assessments, occupational standards, labour market information, labour adjustment and career enhancement for young people and the unemployed within the broader manufacturing sector.
