- Lobby for changes to Canadian Labour Code to reflect SCC decision of June 2007 re collective bargaining as a constitutional right.
- Lobby for changes to Copyright legislation that addresses educational concerns, including a provision ensuring that teachers and students can access freely available Internet material for education purposes.
- Make presentations during Federal budget consultations on Child Poverty and other social justice issues related to the education of children and youth.
- Oppose Bill S-209 in its attempt to remove Section 43 of the Criminal Code.
- Propose the strengthening of laws against exploitation of women and children.
- Seek to broaden, under the Income Tax Act, the ability of teachers to deduct employment expenses, including deductions for purchase of classroom materials, education improvement expenses and fees for professional organizations.
- Support amendments to the Criminal Code to address the misuse of technology and occurrences such as cyberbullying.

- Lobby for a universal child care system with federal/provincial/territorial agreements to replace the current Child Tax Credit system.
- Lobby for the creation under the Canada Health Act, of a universal health care benefits program for all Canadian employees, including a national system for long-term and elder care, and a national system for affordable prescription drugs.
- Promote the reduction of Child Poverty through budget measures in 2009 that would increase the minimum wage, improve Employment Insurance benefits, increase investment in social housing, and, improve access to post-secondary education.

- Lobby for restrictions to the ability of employers to empose part-time employment.
- Lobby for the inclusion of child and youth services as part of federal/provincial/territorial agreements for immigrants and refugees, thus improving the education environment and opportunity for those children.
- Obtain a political committment to a national poverty reduction strategy.
- Raise the profile of the importance of defined benefit pension plans
Regulation
- Seek changes to the Employment Insurance Program designed to improve access to benefits for part-time workers.
- Seek to improve the regulations for the rating of films and video games to prevent violent products from being sold to children.
