Policies or Program
- Enforcement Agenda- discussions related to understanding Transport Canada's enforcement plans, particularly as related to National Safety Mark (NSM) application and auditing and importation policies.
Regulation
- Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 121, Air Brake Systems- discuss Transport Canada's position on pending changes to United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 121.- discuss possibility of incorporating air brake requirement of Ontario Safe Productive Infrastructure Friendly (SPIF) trailers in CMVSS 121. Also, discussed the desire to retain the trailer Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) warning light on the side of the trailer indefinitely past the current sunset date.
- Discuss the feasibility of heavy vehicle side guards with Transport Canada per project listed in their Regulation Plan and reports drafted by NRC.
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC) - participate with Transport Canada in research related to ESC for Heavy Vehicles as it relates to potential regulation development.
- Heavy-Duty Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Emissions Working Group - Provide input into the development of GHG and Fuel Economy Standards for Heavy and Medium duty trucks.
- Motor Vehicle Safety Act and Regulations: Lobby for more robust regulatory interpretation system, as current system is subject to inconsistency over time with change in personnel. This leads to frustration and confusion within industry.
- National Safety Mark (NSM)- discussion relating to clarification of issues arising from application process. Discuss status of applications over the previous period.
- Participate in development of new Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations based on CSA B620.
- Transport Canada Road Transport Regulation Plan- discuss proposed changes to regulations pertaining to multi-stage manufacturing industry and trailer manufacturing industry for clarification and give feedback.
