Increase international development assistance and augment the role of co-operatives and other non-governmental organizations in delivery of this assistance. Canada needs to spend more on Official Development Assistance (ODA) in order to reach the target of .7 of Gross National Income (GNI).
Renew and expand the Co-operative Development Initiative (CDI) and Agricultural Co-operative Development Initiative (Ag-CDI) in April 2009. These are two programs presently administered by the Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) and by Le Conseil Canadien de la Coopération (CCC) in partnership with the Co-operatives Secretariat (AAFC) which both help the development of new and emerging co-operative ventures. These programs end March 31, 2009 and CCA and CCC seek to renew them for a 4 year period.
The establishment of a new federal Co-operative Investment Plan which is a tax credit program which exists in Québec by which members and employees of a co-operative can get a tax deduction for purchasing co-operative shares in agricultural or worker co-ops.
