Decontamination of arriving containers. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is considering new programs to prevent invasive plant and animal species arriving in North America on shipping containers. FMA will be entering into discussions with government officials with respect to the introduction of new programs to prevent plant and animal invasive species from arriving in North America that could contaminate indigenous plant or animal life.
North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Transportation Services Advisory Group. FMA has accepted an invitation from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) to participate on this advisory group. FMA will provide shipper input to GAC as it prepares for NAFTA negotiations with respect to freight transportation services between Canada and the United States..

An Act to amend the rail provisions of the Canada Transportation Act. FMA will be providing input to the government and to Parliament on the rail shipper protection provisions as Parliament considers amendments to the Act to be introduced by the government.
SHIPPING CONFERENCE EXEMPTION ACT (SCEA) with respect to legal shipping cartels, FMA is the shipper organization designated in the Act to provide input from the purchasers of marine freight transporation.
Règlement
Air Cargo Security. FMA will work with Transport Canada to promote the air cargo security regime with shippers. The plan provides for voluntary participation by shippers and FMA will assist with communication to the shipper community.
Transport Canada has published draft regulations amending the Highway Hours-of-Service Regulations in Canada Gazette, Part I. The draft regulations, if passed will require trucks in interprovincial or international service to install Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) in trucks to monitor drivers hours of service against the on-duty limits in the regulation. FMA will be providing input to Transport Canada as it considers the drft regulation.
