Phase-out the prophylactic use of antimicrobials in farming through better animal welfare practices.
Promote increased production and consumption of plant-based foods as recommended by Canada’s Food Guide to promote healthy diets and reduce carbon emissions;
Provide incentives to encourage farmers to transition to more humane and sustainable farming practices;
We also encourage the Federal Government to work towards implementing the recommendations in our Animal Protection Index (API) at: https://api.worldanimalprotection.org/country/canada.
World Animal Protection would like to see the Government of Canada acknowledge and act on the importance of animal welfare to addressing the biggest challenges of our time including pandemic risk, antimicrobial resistance, climate change and biodiversity loss.

World Animal Protection would like to see the federal government actively support the implementation of UNEA resolution on the "Animal welfare - Environment - Sustainable Development Nexus" and champion the adoption of a Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare at the UN GA.
