Issues to be dealt with include: working with Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes to restore the integrity of the National Building Code: Health, Safety and Structural sufficiency as well as work on energy efficiency; Future of Canada's National Standards system for construction products (with National Research Council of Canada (NRC); Building code development (With NRC); study of availability of skilled labour; labour force requirements (with Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC), IMM Canada; Underground economy and impact on labour force; barriers to cost effective construction & development, examination of other countries measures to promote housing affordability, develope strategy for the future of work force in residiential construction industry. Review of Australian experience re: regulation etc

Immigration Act - amendments with respect to new transitional rules for some economic class applicants and to pass marks for those applying to immigrate to Canada as skilled workers, which may be amended from time to time; rules with respect to immigrants entering Canada to work temporarily to help Canadian employers address skill shortages; Federal rules relating to Federal/Provincial agreements with respect to the provincial nominee program. In addition, the CHBA is interested in Federal efforts to promote recognition of foreign credentials of skilled tradespeople such as the recently announced Federal agency being established in relation to this topic.
