The primary activities of AIC with respect to government relations are as follows:In accordance with our MOU with the Department of Public Works and Government Services, the Institute provides advice to PWGSC on matters related to valuation of real property held by the Government of Canada, including the design of Best Practices for valuation of specialized federal property. AIC also seeks advice from PWGSC on the development of standards of practice and the department's requirements of services from members of the Institute, and collaborates with PWGSC to monitor trends in real property issues that have an impact on valuation practices. AIC also consults with the department in its policies that may have an impact on federal real property decision making (for example, ensuring complete confidentiality for work done for the federal government); ,The Institute may also consult with other departments who oversee government owned properties from time to time, for example Department of National Defence, Agriculture Canada , and these discussions are facilitated by PWGSC under the terms of the MOU. AIC also may provide training advice and resources for federal employees as outlined in the MOU , or work with government departments to train AIC members on specialized valuation techniques related to federal holdings of real property.
