Subject Matter: Retrospective: | From April 2007 to present, the Canadian Public Health Association has participated in a number of activities which include the following:Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response (CEPR), Public Health Agency of Canada - Canadian Public Health Association was involved in the Inter-Agency Psychosocial Working Group whose purpose is to promote the integration of psychosocial issues into emergency planning and preparedness. CPHA participated in two teleconferences (June 14 and July 12) relating to pandemic influenza projects.Canadian School Health Non-Governmental Organization Network whose purpose is to share information among NGOs on school health issues and activities.Coalition on Community Safety, Health and Well-being which was funded until March 2007 by Crime Prevention Partnership Program of the National Crime Prevention Strategy. The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police acts as secretariat and has funded the coalition since March 2007. The purpose of the coalition is to promote a vision and best practices for the practical realization of community safety, In July 2007 the Canadian Public Health Association was an invited participant, Meeting of the Health Portfolio Grants and Contributions Action Plan. In September 2007 the Canadian Public Health Association met with Public Health Agency of Canada regarding 8th Canadian National Immunization Conference. Also in September 2007 Ian Culbert, Director of the Canadian HIV/AIDS Information Centre wrote to Minister Clement urging the Government of Canada's ongoing support of the InSite supervised injection facilityIn October 2007 the Canadian Public Health Association participated in the Correctional Service Canada - meeting regarding HIV/AIDS. Also in October the Canadian Public Health Association as a member of the Chronic Disease Prevention alliance of Canada met with the Federal Health Minister to present a brief on chronic disease policyThe Canadian Public Health Association met informally with Carolyn Bennett MP to discuss health policy. Also in October 2007 wrote letter to the Federal Minister of Health and to the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes concerning CPHA 2007 Resolution No 1 - Fall Prevention & Building Codes. We wrote to the Federal Minister of Health concerning CPHA 2007 Resolution No. 2 - Regulation of Psychoactive Substances in Canada.The Canadian Public Health Association was an invited participant, 2007 National Forum on Global Risk, Local Action by the Public Health Agency of Canada and Public Safety Canada in October 2007 and endorsed the salt policy of Blood Pressure Canada.Canadian Public Health Association representatives met with Public Health Agency of Canada - Emerging Infectious Diseases Section to discuss project on Early Detection and Reporting.In November 2007 the Canadian Public Health Association had an informal meeting with Chief Public Health Officer.The Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian of the Canadian Public Health Association was invited by Health Canada to sit as a member of the National Drug Prevention Advisory Committee Meeting.CPHA was an invited participant in Environment and Children and Environment and Seniors initiatives and in consultation of the Minister of Health's Advisor on Children's Issues and were an invited participant in the Environment Minister, consultation on environment issues. |
Subject Matter: Prospective: | On November 26, 2007 CPHA will participate in CDPAC national consultation meeting - the Cube Project - Alignment of primary prevention priorities across comprehensive chronic disease strategies.CPHA is a member of following coalitions who have met and will meet to lobby various levels of government on public health issues, Health Action Lobby, Canadian Coalition for Public Health in the 21st Century and is a Steering Committee Member of the Chronic Disease Prevention Alliance of Canada (CDPAC). |
