Subject Matter: Retrospective: | Met with politicians and public servants from various departments and agencies on a range of files pertaining to the Foreign Convention and Tour Incentive Program, Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, Border Infrastructure and Travel Facilitation Issues, Funding for the Canadian Tourism Commission, Airport Rents, Air Liberalization Policy and Bilateral Air Services Agreements, Sustainable Tourism Initiatives,Sport Tourism Hosting Policy and the National Tourism Strategy |
Subject Matter: Prospective: | TIAC will be active on files pertaining to funding for the Canadian Tourism Commission; the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative; support for Enhanced Drivers Licences; sustainable tourism; tourism infrastructure and product development; aviation costs and air liberalization policy; border policies; human resources and training; sport tourism, aboriginal tourism, multi-modal transportation; and the development of a National Tourism Strategy. This will involve meetings with Parliamentary Committees, the Tourism Industry Caucus (Chaired by Bruce Stanton MP), public servants in relevant line departments, key Ministers and MPs.. |

Policy or Program | Develop a Communications Program for dissemination of the new documentation rules for land, sea and air modes pertaining to the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. TIAC will advocate that the Federal Government, in conjunction with the U.S. government, increase its communication efforts vis-a-vis the Canadian and U.S. travelling publics about new U.S. entry & exit documentation requirements. |
Policy or Program | Develop Federal support for the creation of Enhanced Drivers Licenses at the provincial level. TIAC will work to ensure the necessary infrastructure and databases concerning authentication of citizenship and nationality are put at the disposal of the provinces in order to facilitate their issuance of Enhanced Drivers Licences. |
Legislative Proposal, Policy or Program, Regulation | Enhancements to Border Infrastructure and Travel Facilitation. TIAC will advocate for improvements to physical infrastructure, technology and security at our land, marine and air ports of entry. |
Grant, Contribution or Other Financial Benefit, Policy or Program | Enhancements to Canadian Tourism product and supporting infrastructure. TIAC will work to ensure that infrastructure funding is available to ensure that Canadian tourism products are modern and attractive to domestic and overseas visitors. This may include investments in items such as ancillary infrastructure in the form of roads, sidewalks, sewage and water treatment; meeting and convention facilities; new border and customs inspection facilities and others. |
Regulation, Policy or Program | Human Resources. TIAC wil work to ensure that sufficient numbers of well trained workers are available to staff postions within the travel, accommodations and attractions sectors. This may necessitate advocating on behalf of changes to the Foreign Workers Program and other federal labour market initiatives |
Regulation | Increase number of Open Skies Air Liberalization Programs with other countries and regions (EU etc.) TIAC will work to develop support for futher air liberalization initiaitives that will benefit the choice of flights, frequency of service, and affordability of air fares for travellers to and within Canada. |
Grant, Contribution or Other Financial Benefit | Marketing Funding for the Canadian Tourism Commission. TIAC will work to obtain an additional increment for the CTC which is engaged in the marketing, branding and promoting of Canada to overseas visitors and tourists. The CTC is a Crown Agency of the Federal Government. |
Grant, Contribution or Other Financial Benefit, Policy or Program | Support for multi-modal passenger transportation initiatives. TIAC will work in support of the provision of rail, coach and air passenger transportation networks that are "intermodally connected", modern, and safe. Such investments help to facilitate the movement of visitors in an efficient and secure manner whilst they are in Canada. |
Grant, Contribution or Other Financial Benefit | Sustainable Tourism Toolkit Dissemination Phase. TIAC will work to secure funding for the dissemination amongst industry of the soon to be completed Toolkit. This will require contacting groups such as the Canadian Tourism Commission, Parks Canada and others to secure additional funding for the dissemination of the Toolkit to operators and businesses within the Canadian travel and tourism sectors. The objective is to help Canadian businesses in this sector to reduce their carbon and environmental footprint. |
Policy or Program | TIAC will advocate for improvements to the Foreign Convention and Tour Incentive Program. This program provides GST relief to volume leisure tour groups and meetings and conventions being held in Canada. TIAC will work to enhance the scope and functioning of this program. |
