- Proposed changes to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA), or implementing regulations, towards achievement of improved alignment with the ongoing licensing process for nuclear facilities under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act including ongoing involvement of the proponent in environmental assessment project scope definition to ensure alignment with the licensing approval sought, clarifying the exclusion of minor projects, enhancing the use of completed environmental assessments (EAs) of OPG’s facilities in subsequent environmental assessments involving the same facility or same activities, decreasing duplication between provincial and federal EAs and authorizations under the triggering acts including better focus on key considerations that fall under federal jurisdiction, reduction in CEAA triggers where it does not bring environmental or sustainability gains beyond those ensured by other legal or regulatory processes and establishment of timelines by legislation or regulation for all the main phases of the project EA and authorization processes with a more coordinated approach to aboriginal consultations
- Proposed regulations to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions from the electricity sector’s coal-fired units advocating the role that repowered, low capacity-factor, simple-cycle units plan in the electricity market and seeking confirmation that coal units repowered to burn biomass, gas, or co-fire biomass/gas will not be subject to the GHG regulation.
- Re - Introduction of Bill C-10 Amendment to add subsection 149(1) (z.2) to the Income Tax Act with respect to trusts established under the Nuclear Fuel Waste Act
- Regulatory Framework for Industrial Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Canada in respect to controlling greenhouse gas and conventional air pollutant emissions in the electricity sector including advocating for a role of nuclear energy in meeting targets
