On May 9, 2011, we wrote Prime Minster Harper , with a copy to Jack Layton, Elizabeth May , and the Interim Leaders of the Liberal Party andthe Bloc Quebecois to pass legislation to regulate the behaviour of Canadian gas ,oil and mining compnaies that operate overseas;to remove restrictions on future funding of maternal health programs, to ratify and implement the International Convention on Cluster Munitions, which Canada has signed, adopt concrete measures to support and promote the International Criminal Court. We also recommend against reintroducing the Preventing Human Smugglers frmo Abusing Canada's Immigration Sytem ACT, particularly the proposed amendments to sections 20.1, 56.2, and 57.1 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. We have also askedthat Omar Khadr be repatriated in accordnace with Canadian law.

We were asking the immediate repatriation from Guantanamo Bay of Omar Khadr to Canada unless the Obama administration acts quickly to prosecute Khadr in US federal court. We asked for the resettlement of some of the detainees who could not be repatriated due to the risk of torture or persecution in their home countries.
