- Federal infrastructure funding: representing BC local governments, UBCM staff communicate with Infrastructure Canada staff regarding federal infrastructure funding programs (not the Gas Tax program).
Grant, Contribution or Other Financial Benefit, Policies or Program
- Federal Gas Tax Transfer Program: UBCM administers this program in British Columbia. Our staff are in contact with Infrastructure Canada staff on a regular basis. UBCM staff and a Board representative sit on an oversight committee for this program. UBCM staff are also in regular contact with ministerial staff and staff from parliamentary and constituency offices to plan communications and public announcements of projects funded by federal Gas Tax transfers.
- Funding for Community to Community Forum: working with First Nations Summit, UBCM requested a commitment of funding from Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, towards the Regional Community to Community Forum program as well as the 2016 Provincial Community to Community Forum. To this end, UBCM staff continue to communicate with INAC staff via email and phone. There has also been email contact with other INAC administrative staff relative to submitting applications and reports, and receiving grant agreement documents.

- Safe Drinking Water for First Nations Act: UBCM staff communicate with staff from INAC Community Infrastructure Branch about this legislation.
Policies or Program
- Additions to Reserve Policy: UBCM staff continue to communicate with INAC staff regarding proposed changes to the Additions to Reserve Policy.
- Federal spill response planning: Transport Canada is undertaking an Area Response Planning Initiative pilot project in Southern BC, to strengthen the existing preparedness and response regime for ship-source oil spills. Staff from Transport Canada communicate with UBCM staff regarding local government consultation, regional differences, and pilot project implementation.
- Interim Comprehensive Land Claims Policy: UBCM staff continue to communicate with INAC staff on this topic.
- Joint Staff Working Group on Aboriginal Issues: staff from INAC, the BC Ministry of Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation (MARR), and UBCM meet quarterly as a joint working group to discuss issues affecting indigenous peoples and local governments in BC. Recent discussions included Reconciliation Dialogue Workshops coordinated by Reconciliation Canada; the UBCM/MARR MOU on Local Government Participation in the New Relationship; the BC Family Gathering event; and the Moosehide Campaign.
- Legalization and regulation of marijuana: UBCM staff engaged with the federal Task Force on Marijuana Legalization and Regulation in order to provide the perspectives of BC local governments on potential legislative and regulatory changes.
- Management of fisheries and aquaculture: UBCM staff sit on the Shellfish Aquaculture Management Committee and the Marine Finfish Committee, communicating with staff from Fisheries & Oceans Canada on an ongoing basis and interacting with them at committee meetings.
- Memorandum of Understanding: UBCM staff communicate with INAC staff about possible renewal of the lapsed Memorandum of Understanding on Communication and Information Sharing between UBCM and INAC.
- Problem Vessels Working Group: as part of this collaborative working group, UBCM staff engage in ongoing communication with staff from Transport Canada on the issue of derelict vessels in BC waters.
- RCMP Local Government Contract Management Committee: The Local Government Contract Management Committee is a forum for consultation, analysis and communication between local government and the BC provincial government regarding the management of the Agreement under which the RCMP provide local police services in BC. UBCM provides staff support to this committee, which necessitates communication with RCMP personnel at committee meetings and in carrying out the work of the committee.
- Regional engagement by Privy Council Office: UBCM staff engage in discussions with staff from the Privy Council Office, regarding strategies to strengthen public engagement and build connections in the region.
- Statistical data relevant to local governments: Statistics Canada staff have communicated with UBCM staff regarding outreach to BC local governments to raise awareness of relevant data sets and other information products and services.
- Strategic Emergency Management Framework for Agriculture: UBCM staff have attended teleconferences, and communicate with staff from Canadian Food Inspection Agency regarding development of this framework.

- UBCM staff communicate with staff of Port Metro Vancouver regarding land use, assessment, and operations on port-owned lands within the boundaries of local governments.

- Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations: UBCM staff communicate with Health Canada staff regarding the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations and how those regulations are applied in the context of local governments.
