- Advocated for prioritization of plans to rebuild and manage Atlantic mackerel stocks, and ensuring decisions take scientific advice into account and address undeclared catch
- Communicated in respect of Canadian Atlantic Herring allowable catch and rebuilding healthy stocks
- Communicated in respect of priorities for conservation in the marine regions of the Canadian Arctic
- Creation of a policy and national action plan to reduce greenhouse gas and black carbon emissions from ships
- Development of a national speed reduction policy for maritime shipping to reduce marine mammals strikes, pollution and underwater noise.
- Marine Refuges, in relation to making improvements to existing marine refuges in the Gulf Region in order to align management with guidance set out by the Convention on Biological Diversity.
- Oceans Protection Plan, in respect of federal initiatives to study and protect coastal marine ecosystems from the cumulative effects of marine shipping; gather baseline data for priority ocean areas; and improve prevention and response to marine pollution incidents
Regulation
- Advocated against the development of a regulation to exempt oil and gas exploration drilling projects from the impact assessment process east of Newfoundland and Labrador, to ensure that cumulative effects of projects are assessed and areas of high conservation value are off limits to development
- Communicated with respect to the Arctic Water Pollution Prevention Act and the Arctic Shipping Pollution Prevention Regulations in respect of an amendment to Section 4 that will regulate discharge of grey water waste in arctic waters.
- Creation of a regulation at the International Maritime Organization that would ban the use of Heavy Fuel Oil due to potential detrimental impact on the marine environment
