Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution
- Energy Efficiency Act, respecting the Powers of Minister.
- Mandate commitment to implement a ‘right to repair’ to extend the life of home appliances, particularly electronics, by requiring manufacturers to supply repair manuals and spare parts, and by amending the Copyright Act to allow for the repair of digital devices and systems
- Proposed Federal plastic ban
Policies or Program
- On matters related to the Regulatory Cooperation Council and regulatory cooperation with respect to energy efficiency regulations and appliance standards
- Policy recommendations to require microfiber filters on washing machines. Filters would be largely ineffective. They also created a number of problems, including wasted water, increased energy use and unnecessary plastic use.
- To help Canadians save more on their monthly energy bills, we will also move forward with making Energy Star certification mandatory for all new home appliances starting in 2022.
Regulation
- Energy Efficiency Regulations, with respect to energy efficiency standards and labeling of home appliances.
- Proposed Amendments to the Prohibition of Certain Toxic Substances Regulations: Flame retardants
