Aboriginal Affairs;
We are seeking to discuss an Edmonton Urban Indigenous Strategy. Our organization is made up of “Game-Changers”, which are priority areas that have been identified as systemic barriers that enable poverty. Our Indigenization Game-Changer has facilitated incredible work in our community and we hope to speak about our work and discuss how we can drive it further. Additionally, we will be wanting to embark on conversations regarding an Indigenous Culture and Wellness Center in Edmonton.
Child Services;
We have conducted significant work in the early learning and child care space in Alberta through research & development, lived experience evaluations, publications and advocacy work. We are looking to discuss the Federal early learning and child care plan in addition to the specific needs of Edmonton as a municipality in addition to Alberta as a whole.
Economic Development;
To ensure economic competitiveness and resiliency and address social and economic challenges caused by poverty, Edmonton must focus on building an inclusive economy. We would like to discuss an inclusive economic growth strategy for Edmonton
Specific goals should include: 1) Ensuring that economic plans in Edmonton have inclusive growth at the core and that the needs and voice of those excluded from economic opportunity are integral to these plans 2) Incorporating economic reconciliation into Edmonton’s economic planning.
Taking a systemic approach ensures that stakeholders and initiatives are effectively aligned, including employment supports, labour market policy, business supports and industry attraction.
Employment and Training;
EndPovertyEdmonton is utilizing its expertise in workforce development, procurement, research, and evaluation to create systems change. One of the main methods of ending poverty is to create economic opportunities for those living in poverty. As such, EndPovertyEdmonton's structure is built upon coordinating and brokering partnerships between people, community organizations, government, educational institutions, and industry. One main area of focus is ensuring the workforce development ecosystem is established and implemented to create win-win scenarios for both industry partners, community organizations and those participating in employment opportunities. We hope to speak about our work in the community and discuss ways to amplify our successes.
Health;
We would like to discuss the Community-led governance model for the provision of mental health services in Edmonton. As part of our work to end poverty in Edmonton within a generation, we have identified health services (specifically mental health services) as a key priority area, or “Game-Changer”.
Housing;
We aim to advocate for Edmonton to receive its fair portion of the federal housing budget. Additionally, we would like to have conversations regarding the provision of housing and homelessness. Key pieces of discussion will revolve around determining what barriers there are between the provincial and federal governments; and how the City of Edmonton can play a role. As part of our work to end poverty in Edmonton within a generation, we have identified housing and homelessness as a key priority area, or “Game-Changer”.

EndPovertyEdmonton is a community initiative working towards prosperity for all through advancing reconciliation, the elimination of racism, livable incomes, affordable housing, accessible and affordable transit, affordable and quality child care, and access to mental health services and addiction supports. To do this, we aim to understand services, and what systems and policy changes needs to occur to ensure those services meet the goal of eliminating poverty. EndPovertyEdmonton has a funding agreement with the City of Edmonton.
