Subject Matter Details
Legislative Proposal, Bill or Resolution, Regulation
- Agriculture in respect of the Health of Animals Act compensation for animals ordered destroyed and in respect of Business Risk Management programs. We dispute the means used by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to calculate compensation in the event flocks are order destroyed due to a finding of Notifiable Avian Influenza. There have been no recent cases involving egg farmers but we are concerned for the future.
Policies or Program
- Bilateral trade agreements in respect of exclusions for supply management, specifically Canada-EU and NAFTA
- World Trade Organization negotiations in respect to supply management
Regulation
- Consumer Health Claim Issues in respect to nutrition labelling and serving size, particularly the use of one egg as a serving size, rather than two. The client is concerned that restricting the serving size on the nutrition label to one egg restricts the way egg farmers may claim eggs as a source of dietary energy.
