Description of the organization's activities
CANARIE Inc. - Canada's advanced Internet development organization - is a not-for-profit corporation supported by its members, project partners and the Federal Government.
CANARIE's mission is to accelerate Canada's advanced Internet development and use by facilitating the widespread adoption of faster, more efficient networks and by enabling the next generation of advanced products, applications and services to run on them.
Headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, CANARIE employs 30 full-time staff dedicated to the research and implementation of advanced networks and applications that will stimulate economic growth and increase Canada's international competitiveness.
CANARIE has already succeeded in enhancing Canadian R&D Internet speeds by a factor of almost one million since its inception in 1993. The organization has also funded numerous advanced Internet applications projects, providing some 500 companies with the opportunity to achieve business success through innovation.

CANARIE Inc., is Canada’s advanced network organization. It facilitates the development and use of its network as well as the advanced products, applications and services that run on it. The CANARIE network serves organizations in a wide variety of fields in both the public and private sectors. By promoting and participating in strategic collaborations among key sectors, and by partnering with peer networks and organizations around the world, CANARIE Inc. stimulates and supports research, innovation and growth, bringing economic, social, and cultural benefits to Canadians. CANARIE Inc. is supported by membership fees, with major funding of its programs and activities provided by the Government of Canada through Industry Canada. www.canarie.ca
Membership applications are subject to the approval of the Board of Directors. CANARIE patrons are organizations or enterprises who are committed to the goals of CANARIE, who conduct R&D that relates to advanced networking technology, applications and services, and who are eligible for membership in one of three CANARIE membership classes. The three classes of membership include industry, institutional and associate members.
i) Industry Members are for profit Canadian corporations who are interested in furthering the objectives of CANARIE. All industry members are invited to CANARIE member meetings and each are entitled to one vote.
ii) Institutional Members are not for profit Canadian corporations including federal or provincial government agencies, post-secondary institutions, or other public or private institutions. All institutional members are invited to CANARIE member meetings and each is entitled to one vote.
iii) Associate members are associations, corporations or individuals who are interested in furthering the objectives of CANARIE. All associate members are invited to CANARIE member meetings but are not entitled to vote.
