Such legislation would declare First Nations’ policing as an essential service in federal law and ensure that First Nations’ police services are adequately funded comparable to mainstream, non-First Nations’ police forces, and therefore permit First Nations to exercise properly and adequately their jurisdiction over the safety and security of their nations.
