Description of the organization's activities
THE CANADIAN CATTLEMEN'S ASSOCIATION REPRESENTS THE INTERESTS OF NEARLY 60,000 FARMERS AND RANCHERS AND PROMOTES THE EQUITABLE AND ECONOMIC WELFARE OF ALL PHASES OF THE BEEF INDUSTRY. IT ENCOURAGES THE ENACTMENT AND ENFORCEMENT OF LEGISLATION THAT IS DEEMED TO BE OF INTEREST TO THE BEEF CATTLE INDUSTRY AND OPPOSES LEGISLATION OR GOVERNMENT ACTIVITIES THAT IS CONTRARY TO THOSE INTERESTS. THE ORGANIZATION ENCOURAGES RESEARCH IN THE AREAS OF BEEF PRODUCTION AND MARKETING. IT PROMOTES THE POPULARITY OF BEEF AS A FOOD BY CREATING A BETTER UNDERSTANDING AMONG CONSUMERS. THE CCA COOPERATES WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WHOSE OBJECTIVES ARE SIMILAR IN WHOLE OR IN PART TO THOSE OF THE ASSOCIATION.

MEMBERSHIP IN THE CANADIAN CATTLEMEN'S ASSOCIATION IS LIMITED TO ONE CATTLE OR BEEF PRODUCER ORGANIZATION WITHIN EACH PROVINCE OF CANADA. THE NUMBER OF DIRECTORS FROM EACH PROVINCE IS BASED ON THE NUMBER OF CATTLE MARKETED WITHIN THAT PROVINCE. EACH PROVINCE PAYS A MEMBERSHIP FEE BASED ON THE NUMBER OF CATTLE MARKETED WITHIN THEIR JURISDICTION. AT PRESENT ALL PROVINCES, EXCEPT QUEBEC AND NEWFOUNDLAND, ARE MEMBERS OF THE CCA. THE ASSOCIATION ALSO ALLOWS FOR ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP IN THE ORGANIZATION BUT ASSOCIATE MEMBERS DO NOT HAVE VOTING PRIVILEGES.
