Description of the organization's activities: FORMED IN 1908 TO PROMOTE PROFESSIONALISM AMONG ACCOUNTANTS, THE CERTIFIED GENERAL ACCOUNTANTS' ASSOCIATION OF CANADA HAS SINCE BECOME ONE OF CANADA'S LEADING ACCOUNTING BODIES AND A MAJOR FORCE IN INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTING EDUCATION.TODAY, THE ASSOCIATION IS A SELF-REGULATING PROFESSIONAL BODY THAT REPRESENTS OVER 47,500 CERTIFIED GENERAL ACCOUNTANTS AND CGA STUDENTS IN CANADA, BERMUDA, THE NATIONS OF THE CARIBBEAN AND THE PACIFIC RIM.CHARTERED BY AN ACT OF PARLIAMENT IN 1913, CGA-CANADA WORKS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ITS PROVINCIAL AND TERRITORIAL ASSOCIATIONS TO PRODUCE AN EDUCATION PROGRAM THAT MAINTAINS RECOGNIZED STANDARDS OF EXCELLENCE. THE ASSOCIATION SERVES THE PUBLIC INTEREST BY ENSURING THAT MEMBERS ADHERE TO THE HIGHTEST MEASURE OF PROFESSIONAL AND ETHICAL CONDUCT.
Organization's membership or classes of membership: CERTIFIED GENERAL ACCOUNTANTS ARE REPRESENTED NATIONALLY THROUGH CGA-CANADA AND REGIONALLY THROUGH THEIR PROVINCIAL AND LOCAL CHAPTER STRUCTURES. THE NATIONAL BODY GIVES THE ASSOCIATION ITS UNITY AND STRENGHT, WHILE ENSURING UNIFORM EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS ACROSS CANADA.MOST CGA STUDENTS AND MEMBERS BELONG TO A PROVINCIAL ASSOCIATION CHAPTER. CHAPTERS MEET PERIODICALLY TO EXCHANGE VIEWS AND IDEAS, AS WELL AS DISCUSS ISSUES INVOLVING CONTINUING EDUCATION.
