Description of the organization's activities: | ONTARIO PORK IS THE SECOND LARGEST MARKETING BOARD IN ONTARIO, WHOSE MANDATE IS TO MARKET LIVE HOGS FOR THE OPTIMUM FOR THEIR PRODUCER BODY. ONTARIO PORK REPRESENTS 6,000 PRODUCERS IN ONTARIO IN MANY AREAS INCLUDING, HOG MARKETING, CONSUMER EDUCATION, RESEARCH, GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATION, ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES, ANIMAL CARE AND QUALITY ASSURANCE PROGRAMS. THE ONTAIO PORK PRODUCERS' MARKETING BOARD HAD GROSS SALES OF $687 MILLION IN 1997 BASED ON SALES OF APPROXIMATLEY 4 MILLION HOGS. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT TOTAL INDUSTRY OUTPUT FROM FARM GATE SALES IS WORTH 4.5 BILLION TO THE ONTARIO ECONOMY. CANADIAN EXPORTS IN 1997 AMOUNTED TO 1.3 BILLION, WHICH WAS SHIPPED TO 80 COUNTRIES. |
