Description of the organization's activities: THE CANADIAN CARDIOVASCULAR SOCIETY IS THE PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CARDIOLOGISTS, CARDIOVASCULAR SURGEONS, AND PHD-LEVEL RESEARCHERS WHO FOCUS ON CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH ISSUES. THE SOCIETY'S MISSION IS: TO ADVANCE THE CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH AND CARE OF CANADIANS THROUGH LEADERSHIP IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, ADVOCACY, AND THE PROMOTION AND DISSEMINATION OF RESEARCH. THE SOCIETY FOCUSES ITS ACTIVITIES ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF ITS MEMBERSHIP, DEFINING BEST PRACTICES REGARDING CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE AND TRAINING, AND ADVOCATING REGARDING ISSUES THAT WILL HELP TO ACHIEVE THE MISSION.
Organization's membership or classes of membership: THE SOCIETY'S MEMBERSHIP INCLUDES REGULAR MEMBERSHIP WHICH IS OPEN TO PHYSICIANS, SURGEONS OR SCIENTISTS WHOSE PRIMARY INTEREST IS IN THE PRACTICE OF CARDIOLOGY, CARDIOVASCULAR SURGERY, OR RESEARCH IN THESE OR RELATED FIELDS. ASSOCIATE MEMBERS ARE THOSE WHO DO NOT QUALIFY FOR REGULAR MEMBERSHIP, BUT WHO HAVE AN INTEREST IN CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH, AND WISH TO AFFILIATE WITH THE SOCIETY. TRAINEE MEMBERS ARE THOSE ENGAGED IN A FORMAL CARDIOVASCULAR-RELATED TRAINING PROGRAM. LIFE MEMBERS ARE THOSE WHO ARE NO LONGER IN ACTIVE PRACTICE, AND WHO WERE MEMBERS FOR AT LEAST FIVE YEARS. THE SOCIETY ALSO IDENTIFIES SOME REKNOWNED INDIVIDUALS AS HONORARY MEMBERS.
