THE ORGANIZATION PROMOTES COMPLIANCE TO SAFETY REGULATIONS AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL AND SUBSEQUENTLY IS ENGAGED WITH TRANSPORT CANADA ROAD SAFETY ON MATTERS OF NEW REGULATIONS AND AMENDMENTS TO EXISITING REGULATIONS. WE ARE ALSO ENGAGED IN ORGANIZING AND SUPPORTING SUPPORTING JOINT TESTING PROGRAMS TO BENEFIT THE MANUFACTURERS. |

MANUFACTURER, DEALER/DISTRIBUTOR/ASSOCIATE & AFFILIATE.MANUFACTURERS ARE CORPORATIONS THAT ASSEMBLE VOCATIONALHIGHWAY TRUCKS, TRACTORS AND TRAILERS WHILE DEALER/DISTRIBUTORS RETAIL THE PRODUCTS AND PROVIDE SERVICES TO THE USERS OF THE VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT. ASSOCIATES ARE COMPANIES THAT SUPPLY SERVICES SUCH AS BUSINESS SYSTEMS AND ARE NOT ENGAGED IN PRODUCING VEHICLE OR PRODUCTS. AFFILIATES ARE OTHER TRADE ASSOCIATIONS AND GOVERNMENT AGENCIES THAT HAVE AN INTEREST IN THE INDUSTRY. THE LATTER TWO CATEGORIES DO NOT HAVE VOTING PRIVELEGES. |

Subject Matter: Retrospective: | WE WISH TO CONFIRM THAT AS A RESULT OF OUR EFFORTS WITH RESPECT TO A TRUCK TEST PROJECT THE CTEA RECEIVED AN AMOUNT OF $10,000 THIS PAST FALL TOWARD THE COST OF THE PROJECT FROM TRANSPORT CANADA ROAD SAFETY. A FULL REPORT OF THE TEST DOCUMENTATION WAS SUPPLIED ON CD AND IN HARD COPY FOR THEIR RECORDS. ON DECEMBER 16 & 17, 2002 CTEA WAS IN OTTAWA FOR A MEETING WITH TRANSPORT CANADA ROAD SAFETY RELATING TO PROPOSED REGULATIONS FOR REAR UNDERRIDE GUARDS ON TRAILERS. CTEA IS PROPOSING THAT TRANSPORT CANADA HARMONIZE THE PROPOSED RULE WITH THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY ADMINISTRATION IN THE U.S.A.CTEA ALSO TOOK PART IN A MEETING WITH TRANSPORT CANADA RELATING TO PENDING AMENDMENTS TO THE MVSA AND CONTRIBUTED ADVISORY INFORMATION INTENDED TO ASSIST TRANSPORT CANADA IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR PLANS FOR PREPARING GUIDELINES FOR COMPANIES APPLYING FOR A NATIONAL SAFETY MARK.THE ASSOCIATION RECENTLY APPLIED TO DFAIT FOR A PEMD TA IN FEBRUARY TO HELP SUPPORT EXPORT INITIATIVES IN THE U.S. AND MEXICAN MARKETS. |
Subject Matter: Prospective: | CTEA PLANS TO MEET IN MARCH WITH TRANSPORT CANADA ROAD SAFETY OFFICIALS IN TORONTO TO EVALUATE THE PROGRESS OF THE VOCATIONAL TRUCK MANUFACTURING SECTOR IN MEETING COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS UNDER THE AMENDED MVSA REGULATIONS THAT TOOK EFFECT FEB 13,2003.WE EXPECT TO HAVE FURTHER DISCUSSIONS THIS SPRING WITH TRANSPORT CANADA ROAD SAFETY RELATING TO FURTHER EVALUATIONS UNDERWAY CONCERNING REAR UNDERRIDE GUARDS. |
