Description of the organization's activities: Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC) is an independent not-for-profit corporation created by the Government of Canada to help bring new technologies to market. SDTC's mandate is to help industry take innovative sustainable development technologies that contribute to climate change, clean air, clean land, and clean water through the critical pre-commercialization phases of development and demonstration. In addition to providing funding for a portfolio average of 33% of eligible project costs, SDTC works directly with technology developers to strengthen their entrepreneurial skills and to reduce the risk in their emerging clean technologies.

Subject Matter: Retrospective: In accordance with the Act of Parliament that formed SDTC (Bill C-4), SDTC reports to parliament through the Minister of Natural Resources Canada, and is supported by the Minister's of Environment and Industry. In order to fully execute our mandate, we believe it is critical for us to inform government officials about our organization, its activities and how they improve the productivity, profitability and global competitiveness of Canadian industry in the area of sustainable development. The nature of activities performed by SDTC are governed by its Funding Agreement which is periodically updated and requires detailed discussions between SDTC and the Government of Canada. In addition, in order to ensure that our activities are complementary to initiatives undertaken by the Government, it is necessary for us to solicit information on various departmental programs that are either earlier or later in the innovation chain compared to SDTC's mandate.
Subject Matter: Prospective: SDTC interacts with the Federal Government at several levels. Our President & CEO meets periodically with senators, parliamentarians and government officials to discuss emerging issues and to provide an update on SDTC. In addition, she represents SDTC on a number of governmental and industry panels, roundtables adn conferences at which she interacts with various senior government officials. Other members of the SDTC team meet with their technical or management counterparts in various situations at SDTC, at government offices, or, at conferences. In addition, SDTC holds a monthly government meeting with officials from NR Canada, Environment Canada, Industry Canada and the Privy Council.
