Description of activities: | CANADIAN OCCIDENTAL OVERVIEWCANADIANOXY IS 30% HELD BY OCCIDENTAL IN THE U.S. SO THEY HAVE A STRONG SAY IN WHAT IS DONE BUT NOT AS A CONTROLLING INTEREST. WE ACTUALLY COMPETE AND PARTNER WITH THEM IN PROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH OCCIDENTAL IS DIFFERENT THAN WITH A LOT OF OTHER COMPANIES WHO HAVE A "FOREIGN" PARENT COMPANY WHERE THE CANADIAN COMPANY MANAGES THE CANADIAN ASSETS AND THE PARENT COMPANY MANAGES THE ASSETS ELSEWHERE IN THE WORLD. OCCIDENTAL HAS NO ASSETS IN CANADA BUT CANADIANOXY HAS ASSETS IN THE U.S. AS WELL AS NUMEROUS OTHER COUNTRIES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.CANADIAN OCCIDENTAL MANAGES ITS ASSETS THROUGH A NUMBER OF SUBSIDIARIES. WE HAVE CHEMICALS BUSINESS MANAGED UNDER CXY CHEMICALS WITH HEAD OFFICE IN CALGARY. THIS IS AN INORGANIC CHEMICALS BUSINESS WITH NO RELATIONSHIP WHATSOEVER WITH THE OIL AND GAS BUSINESS. ONE OF THEIR PRIMARY PRODUCTS IS SODIUM CHLORATE USED AS A BLEACHING PRODUCT IN THE PULP AND PAPER INDUSTRY. THEY HAVE PLANT LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT CANADA AS WELL AS A COUPLE OF LOCATIONS IN THE U.S. PRICING FOR THEIR PRODUCTS HAS BEEN VERY STRONG DUE TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL SENSITIVITIES AROUND THE PULP AND PAPER INDUSTRY SO THEY HAVE BEEN DOING VERY WELL FINANCIALLY AND INCREASING THEIR PRODUCTION CAPABILITIES BY ACQUIRING NEW PLANTS.WE HAVE OIL AND GAS ASSETS IN THE U.S. GULF COAST AREA, BOTH ONSHORE AND OFFSHORE TEXAS AND LOUISIANA. THESE ARE MANAGED UNDER CXY ENERGY WITH HEAD OFFICE IN DALLAS. OVER THE LAST 4 YEARS, WE HAVE EXPANDED OUR LAND BASE QUITE SUBSTANTIALLY AND ARE NOW MOVING INTO DEEPER WATER OFFSHORE.IN 1997, CANADIAN OCCIDENTAL ACQUIRED WASCANA ENERGY INC. OUR CANADIAN OIL AND GAS ASSETS ARE NOW MANAGED UNDER WASCANA ENERGY INC. WITH HEAD OFFICE IN REGINA.
