Description des activités de l'organisation : | NACHA DEFENDS AND ADVANCES THE INTERESTS OF HOUSING CO-OPERATIVES IN NORTHERN ALBERTA BY REPRESENTING THESE INTERESTS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT. IT CO-ORDINATES INFORMATION FOR ITS MEMBER HOUSING CO-OPS AND PROVIDES SERVICES AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS WHICH ARE REQUESTED BY THE MEMBERS. IT PUBLISHES A NEWSLETTER CALLED THE "NACHA NEWS" TWO TO FOUR TIMES PER YEAR WHICH IS DISTRIBUTED TO EACH HOUSEHOLD OF THE MEMBER CO-OPERATIVES. IT HOLDS SEVERAL MEETINGS A YEAR BESIDES ITS ANNUAL MEETING. IT OFFERS EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS ON A REQUEST BASIS AND AT ITS ANNUAL MEETING. IT CO-SPONSORS A MEETING ONCE A YEAR WITH THE SOUTHERN ALBERTA CO-OPERATIVE HOUSING ASSOCIATION. IT IS A MEMBER OF THE CO-OPERATIVE HOUSING FEDERATION OF CANADA. IT HAS RECENTLY SIGNED A JOINT SECTOR AGREEMENT WITH CHFC WHICH REQUIRES ALL MEMBER CO-OPS TO BE MEMBERS OF BOTH NACHA AND CHPC.IT OWNS A COMPANY CALLED CASA HOUSING SERVICES WHICH PROVIDES OPERATIONA SERVICES SUCH AS BOOKEEPING, CO-ORDINATION AND UNIT INSPECTIONS ON A FEE-FOR-SERVICE BASIS TO HOUSING CO-OPERATIVES IN THE EDMONTON AREA. |

Objets poursuivis : Renseignements rétrospectifs : | HOUSING CO-OPERATIVES ARE GOVERNED BY THE CO-OPERATIVE ASSOCIATIONS ACT OF ALBERTA. NACHA IS INTERESTED IN ANY CHANGES TO THIS LEGISLATION. MOST OF NACHA'S MEMBERS WERE FINANCED BY FEDERAL CO-OPERATIVE HOUSING PROGRAMS IN PLACE BETWEEN 1973 AND 1981. IT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE DEVOLUTION OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR HOUSING CO-OPS TO THE PROVINCE AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TRANSFER HOUSING CO-OPS TO A NON-GOVERNMENT AGENCY PROPOSED BY THE CO-OPERATIVE HOUSING FEDERATION OF CANADA. MANY CO-OPS RECEIVE DIRECT GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE FOR LOW INCOME HOUSING OR LOW INCOME HOUSEHOLDS AND THERE IS A CONTINUING CONCERN ABOUT AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMPETITIVE WITH MARKET RENTS IN THE RESPECTIVE GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS. NACHA IS A SECOND TIER CO-OPERATIVE WHICH IS OPERATED ON A NON-PROFIT BASIS. IT IS INTERESTED IN RECEIVING EMPLOYMENT GRANTS AVAILABLE TO OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. |
