Description of the organization's activities: NOTO IS AN ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION FOR RESOURCE-BASED TOURISM BUSINESSES IN NORTHERN ONTARIO (PRIMARILY). OUR MAIN ADVOCACY ISSUES RELATE TO NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT. SMALL BUSINESS ISSUES (I.E. TAXATION, LABOUR) ARE ALSO COVERED IN OUR ADVOCACY EFFORTS.] NOTO ADVOCATES ISSUES AT THE FEDERAL, PROVINCIAL AND MUNICIPAL LEVELS AS REQUIRED.
Organization's membership or classes of membership: THERE ARE 3 CLASSES OF MEMBERSHIP. REGULAR MEMBERS ARE GENERALLY TOURISM BUSINESSES THAT OFFER ROOFED OR ITINERANT ACCOMMODATIONS AND RENT BOATS AND/OR MOTORS. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 470 REGULAR MEMBERS IN THE ASSOCIATION. THEY ARE PRIMARILY FISHING AND/OR HUNTING LODGES AND CAMPS, HOUSEKEEPING COTTAGE RESORTS, OUTPOST BUSINESSES, AIR SERVICES, CANOE AND ECO-TOURISM OUTFITTERS, CAMPGROUNDS, TRAILER PARKS AND HOUSEBOAT OPERATIONS. ALLIED MEMBERS ARE BUSINESSES THAT SUPPLY GOODS AND SERVICES TO REGULAR MEMBERS. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 105 ALLIED MEMBERS IN THE ASSOCIATION. ASSOCIATE MEMBERS ARE GENERALLY ANYONE WHO SUPPORTS THE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSOCIATION. THERE ARE ABOUT 15 ASSOCIATE MEMBERS WHO ARE GENERALLY SMALL MOTELS OR RESTAURANTS AND SERVICE STATIONS.

GUN CONTROL AND NON-RESIDENT FIREARM REGISTRATION) BUT NO ACTIVE LOBBYING ACTIVITIES WERE UNDERTAKEN.
Subject Matter: Prospective: NOTO EXPECTS TO LOBBY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: FIREARM REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS FOR NON-RESIDENTS OF CANADA; THE PROPOSED FEDERAL CRUELTY TO ANIMALS LEGISLATION (BILL C-17); AND ISSUES RELATING TO RECREATIONAL BOATING SAFETY (THROUGH DIRECT INVOLVEMENT IN THE COAST GUARD'S ONTARIO REGIONAL RECREATIONAL BOATING ADVISORY COMMITTEE). WE WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR ISSUES RELATING TO THE STREAMLINING OF ENTRANCE INTO CANADA BY U.S. CITIZENS, ABORIGINAL ISSUES RELATING TO LAND CLAIMS, AND TELECOMMUNICATION SERVICE IN RURAL/REMOTE AREAS.
