Description of the organization's activities
THE WEST COAST ENVIRONMENTAL LAW ASSOCIATION (WCELA) HAS BEEN OPERATING AN ENVIRONMENTAL LAW CENTRE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA SINCE 1974. WE PROVIDE FREE LEGAL ADVICE TO INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS IN THE PROVINCE WITH ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS. IN ADDITION, WE ADVOCATE FOR LEGISLATIVE REFORMS TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT, TO ENSURE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN ENVIRONMENTAL DECISION-MAKING AND TO ALIGN LAWS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DECISION-MAKING WITH THE UNITED NATIONS DECLARATION ON THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES.
