Over the past 6 months, FPAC staff have met with numerous Members of Parliament, Ministers, Senators and government officials. These meetings were related to FPAC policy priorities in the areas of taxation, the environment, Aboriginal affairs, transportation policy, trade promotion activities, and workforce skills development. Included as part of these activities were appearances before the House of Commons Standing Committees on: Industry, related to their study of Canadian manufacturing; Finance, related to their pre-budget consultations with Canadians; Environment, related to their hearings into the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, as well as the Senate Standing Committee on Aboriginal Peoples relating to economic development opportunities for Aboriginal Canadians. FPAC staff have also engaged numerous government officials in various government departments on a wide variety of public policy issues. These include: Industry Canada on the issues of clean air regulations, R&D policy, incentives for renewable energy and competitiveness policy; Natural Resources on renewable energy and competitiveness policy; Environment Canada on clean air regulations and the Clean Air Act, biodiversity and the application of the Endangered Species Act; Finance Canada on issues of taxation, investment and competitiveness policy; Fisheries and Oceans on the new Fisheries Act; Transport Canada on the amendments to the Canada Transportation Act; International Trade on matters of trade policy and trade promotion; and Heritage Canada on green procurement policy at Heritage Canada and green procurement policies in UK, Germany, Netherlands and Belgium.

Going forward, FPAC will continue to monitor government activities related to the initiatives mentioned above and any subsequent legislative initiatives within Parliament. These activities will require FPAC staff to continue to work closely with Ministers, MPs, Senators, their staff and government officials within the departments of Industry, Finance, Environment, Natural Resources, Transport and International Trade.
