Description of the organization's activities: The Ontario Long Term Care Association represents 430 private and not-for-profit long term care facilities in Ontario. Long term care facilities are regulated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and governed by the Long Term Statute Law Amendment Act. Government funding is provided for residents receiving nursing and personal care. The Ontario Long Term Care Association has a proud history of achieving recognition and representation for the long term care sector in Ontario. It is widely known and respected for its support of excellence in long term care and, since the founding of the Association in 1959, has been staunchly committed to the professionalism and ethical conduct of its members. The combined expertise of The Ontario Long Term Care Association's many Board and Committee members, as well as its knowledgeable staff, ensure a professionally run association which represents its members' interests in a comprehensive manner while always keeping the best interests of the homes' residents at heart. Long term care in this country is undergoing rapid change and in no province in Canada is this more true than in Ontario. Health care resructuring, development of new long term care facilities, new pending legislation, a trend towards community care and an aging population all make for a dynamic marketplace. The Ontario Long Term Care Association assists its members and the many publics with which it deals in understanding and coping with these changes.
