Policies or Program
- Air Emission standards for industry - BLIERS - Base Level Industrial Emission Reduction Standards through the Ministry of the Environment. Union Gas emissions relate to the combustion of natural gas used to fuel compressors that help run the natural gas system in the province, which in turn power and fuel industry. Union Gas seeks to ensure that natural gas is seen as part of the climate change and emissions solution rather than part of the problem.
- Matters pertaining to the investment climate in Canada and taxation matters (accelerated depreciation on capital) and rate of return on federally regulated investments. Pipeline expansion and investment is often regulated by the National Energy Board and the federal government. Union Gas would be seeking to ensure that these rates of return remain competitive with other jurisdictions in order to maintain sound investment climate for pipeline infrastructure.
- Turning the Corner: Canada’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17% by the year 2020 has direct implications for natural gas usage given its low carbon content. Union Gas seeks to ensure that there is a role for natural gas in any climate change or green house gas reduction policy or program. We seek to communicate that natural gas is the solution for moving off coal and reducing carbon footprint and green house gas emissions
