Policy or Program Lobby for changes to Federal student aid, particularly the Canada Student Loans (CSL) program, Education tax credits, and the Registered Education Savings Program (RESP). Specifically, lobby for a reduction in interest rates charged on student loans, the repurposing of federal education tax credits to up-front, needs based grants, and an increase in RESP government matching dollars for low-income families
Legislative Proposal The Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation (CMSF) currently provides $350 million in needs based grants for students annually. The Foundation is set to expire in 2009. We are lobbying the Federal government to ensure this student assistance funding remains in the system post-2009.
