Subject Matter: Retrospective: | Over the past two months, the Rideau Institute has organized meetings with Members of Parliament (including Cabinet Ministers) and the Senate, particularly members of the House of Commons Defence, Environment, Industry, International Trade, Finance, Fisheries, and Foreign Affairs and International Development Committees, as well as members of the Senate's Foreign Affairs Committee. The Rideau Institute has also corresponded with these MP's, sharing background information, as well as extending invitations to events on Parliament Hill. Key areas in which we have prepared and circulated information are outlined below:Legislative Proposal: - Bill C-52: BudgetBill or Resolution: - The Oceans ActRegulations: - Consumer related issues such as Automated Teller Machine, otherwise known as banking machines (ATM) feesPolicy and/or Programs:- Counterfeiting and piracy of intellectual property.- Corporate social responsibility, and in particular, the government of Canada's response to the Advisory Group Report on National Roundtables on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the Canadian Extractive Industry in Developing Countries.- Government investment in integrated management of Canada's Large Ocean Management Areas (LOMA's).- Canada's mission in Afghanistan and other defence issues such as defense expenditures and Defence procurement policies. - Canadian space policy. - Agriculture / terminator seed technology.Grant or Contribution or Other Financial Benefit: - Increased funding for integrated oceans management. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
