Description of the organization's activities
The Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) is a national not-for-profit voluntary membership association founded in 1910 and incorporated in 1912. CPHA is composed of health professionals from over 25 health-related disciplines. Its members believe in universal and equitable access to the basic conditions necessary to achieve health for all Canadians. CPHA develops and communicates its positions and policies to promote healthy public policy, programs and practices. It also undertakes initiatives that develop tools and resources for public health practitioners and provides a forum for discussion on public health issues. CPHA promotes the improvement and maintenance of personal and community health according to the public health principles of disease prevention, health promotion and health protection.

Organization's membership or classes of membership
CPHA's members give the association unparalleled credibility, direction and authority to speak out on public health issues. The members also provide expertise and they volunteer their time to assist the association advance its work. Membership in the association is voluntary, and fee-based. Membership is open to any individual who subscribes to CPHA's mandate and objectives and is engaged or interested in public health. Membership categories are: Regular; Student (for full-time post-secondary students); Retired; Low Income; International (for non-residents of Canada); and Honorary Life.
